Fort Myers Fishing Report 1/24/2012,The Fort
Myers fishing has been very good. With the exception of a few
days this month the weather as been mild and the fishing has
been hot. Trout on almost every cast with many reaching 25
inches. The redfish have also been cooperative with good
groups of fish on the flats and staging on shorelines when the
tides rise. Flounder have also been showing up in the catch
				  for a good mixed bag.

I am getting a lot of inquires
about snook fishing, and as of this date the snook fishery
remains closed to harvest and is still catch and release only.
I personally have not even fished or looked over areas for
snook since most of my charters have been dedicated to red
fishing and trout fishing. I have heard reports of some areas
being better than others and most if not all of the
populations are recovering at a slow pace.

 Tarpon
fishing is always on my radar and the season should be a good
one. The weather has been mild and if it continues tarpon
could see an early start. I have plenty of room on my books
still but also have a lot of dates unavailable. Tarpon fishing
has become ever increasingly popular and I am booking a lot
				  earlier than normal.

It also seems that there are
plenty of new and old guides trying to stake their claim as
tarpon fishing guides. I made tarpon fishing a top priority
over the last 14 years and along with a few others spent every
day April-August in the most fertile tarpon grounds in the
area and some of the claims from other guides are a bit much.
I know you have to start some where, just like I did, it was
1998 and I know a whole lot more now than I did back then. So
a word to the wise when booking a high dollar tarpon charter
do you home work. You can't just come out of the flats fishing
game and decide to be a tarpon guide it takes a lot of hard
work and experience to put up numbers every day for 120 days
				  straight.

And I stake my reputation as a tarpon guide
who catches fish consistently, experience is a determining
factor. As one of my good friends and fellow Tarpon Fishing
guide said recently "that's why I put my name and phone number
on my boat so when another guide comes up to me his clients
know who actually found the Tarpon".

 Testimonials:

THANK YOU for a great day
on the water, not only did we hook six of the giants but you
proved to be a professional in every sense. What a privilege
to go fishing with you. For your clients, you are the real
deal, not a lot of hype and
excuses but a great guy out on the water.Ken Tompkins,
 Lakefield, Ontario, Canada.
Thanks for the great day on
the water, your efforts in finding the fish are to be
commended. You gave us a day of fishing that will live in
					our memories forever. Thanks again
					Steve,
					Kody and Kristin Elmquist
Thanks for the great 'first
catch' of the year with my son and his friend! We still talk
about the 3 tarpon we caught...memories forever. THANKS for
					your skill! Randy Dalton
Hi Capt.-Thanks for the wonderful time
yesterday. You were the perfect "captain" for us. You put us
right on the fish so that my son hooked fish after fish with
hardly a break. My grandson was thrilled that he caught 8
fish. He neglects to tell people that you hooked most of the
fish and he did the reeling in. After he tired of the
fishing, as 6 year olds often do, it was super of you to
teach him how to get the fish off the lines and how to bait
the hooks. Thank you for keeping him occupied and positive
about fishing for his first flats trip. He will be excited
to go again, which is everything we hoped for. It was nice
that you suggested when we had enough "keepers" for a major
feast that we release the rest of the fish we caught, no
matter what the size. We will be back with you for our next
					fishing adventure.
 Thanks again be well,
 Gerry Friedman
